Have you ever received notes from your vet or therapist and find it difficult to understand what they write?🤔 

Here are some common words vets often use, that may be helpful to know. 


🔸Palmar - means back of front leg

🔸Plantar - means back of hind leg


🔸Proximal - means structures closest to the center of the body (in a vertical direction)

🔸Distal - means structures furthest away from the body (in a vertical direction)


🔸Cranial - means direction towards the head

🔸Caudal - means direction towards the tail


🔸Medial - means structures closest to the midline (the midline divides the horse into 2 - a right side and a left side)

🔸Lateral - means structures that are away from the midline (the midline divides the horse into 2 - a right side and a left side)


🔸Dorsal - means at the top

🔸Ventral - means at the bottom
